We opened Sunset Bar and Grill in 2002. We love the Northwood Village area and wanted to bring to it a place that had great food and drinks – a place where the all the various and vibrant people of the area and beyond could come enjoy a good time. “Sunset Bar and Grill, the zebra-trim restaurant that came to define the Bohemian spirit of Northwood, is no more. Owners Matt Reber and Terry Marince, who say they grew weary of their block’s decline, closed the place in mid-July.

They sold their 1926 Mediterranean Revival house in Northwood, bought a home in Central Florida and moved away. With them went Northwood’s version of that famous TV bar where everybody knows your name.

Just listen to some of the customers who frequented the spot on Broadway Avenue and 24th Street.

“Matt and Terry made the Sunset our own unique Cheers,” says Sunset regular Patty Skelly.

“Many true friendships were made in that restaurant. It was our Cheers,” echoes former Northwood resident Peggy May.

“The Sunset was my Cheers. I could go there and be guaranteed to see someone I knew from the neighborhood,” says customer and local author V. Lynn Whitfield. “Northwood has lost a gem.”

For 17 years, the Sunset’s natty exterior beamed Tequila Sunrise hues upon an often overlooked corner of the West Palm neighborhood, drawing a faithful clientele of locals, business folk, happy-hour regulars, Palm Beachers gone rogue and comfort-food lovers seeking the chef’s scratch-made, handsomely presented dishes”
